Using the fair credit billing act to correct errors
In order to use the fair credit billing act to dispute and error, consumers have to send a written notice of any dispute to the creditor. It has to be mailed via mail to the "billing inquiries" address provided on the consumers credit card statement. The dispute has to be received withing 60 days of the statement date on which the billing error was made.

The fair credit billing act is a US federal act which was an amendment to the Truth in Lending Act. The fair credit billing act was created to provide some protection to consumers from unfair billing practices and to allow the consumer to address billing errors in open end accounts. Open end accounts are accounts such as a credit card.
